In an interview with Ms. Ali Sotto and Ms. Pat P. Daza, Digital Pinoys national campaigner Ronald Gustilo said that NTC failed to implement the safeguards set by the SIM registration law. This is in reaction to Senator Win Gatchalian’s statement after text scams emanating from illegal POGOs have continuously proliferated.
Gustilo also said that after the implementation of the SIM registration law, text scams have worsened and that scammers have quickly adapted to the current situation. He noted that portable cell towers and text blast machines are being used by scammers, as well as messaging platforms such as Apple’s iMessage, Viber, Telegram and Signal.
