A network of digital advocates said today that the cost of high speed internet from newcomer internet service provider is out of reach for ordinary Filipinos.
Digital Pinoys national campaigner Ronald Gustilo said that the price of Starlink’s service is way too expensive.
“While we welcome the entry of a new player, we lament that the cost of high speed internet from Starlink is too expensive for ordinary Filipinos. Many will not be able to afford it.”
Starlink is an internet service provider using Low Earth Orbit satellites to establish an internet connection. The monthly fee for its internet service is P2,700 while the one-time cost of its satellite is P29,320.
Gustilo said that he fears that it will be hard for Starlink to capture a chunk of the market share with the too expensive one-time payment cost for the satellite dish and the monthly fee.
“Starlink will have a hard time getting a large chunk of the market share because of its price. This is something that they may want to consider. Implementing a flexible payment scheme for the satellite device so that it will be more affordable will definitely be welcomed by the public.”
