On President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s SONA message

Digital Pinoys is optimistic with the President’s State of the Nation message, especially on matters that involve the utilization of digital technology.

The announced completion of Phase 1 to 3 of the National Fiber Backbone project is one of the key highlights of the Marcos Jr. Presidency. With the landmark achievements of the project, more Filipinos will enjoy the opportunities and benefits that come along with internet connectivity. The government needs to ensure that the public will soon enjoy fast and reliable internet connectivity, as the President himself emphasized that it’s a necessity for work, business, education and governance.

The President’s desire to address the digital divide is well noted, and we are fully supportive of the government’s projects and programs to bridge the gap.

The President’s thrust to bring internet connectivity to all public schools is a great opportunity to introduce digital literacy, including the use and dangers of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to our education system.

The allocation of funds for laptops for all public school teachers is a welcome development as it will help improve further their productivity and effectiveness. The assurance of the President that the laptops are not overpriced is also welcomed.

While the President did not discuss online gambling, the continuous enforcement of relevant government agencies against illegal online gambling operations signals the government’s policy while we await the administration’s decision on online gambling.

Overall, Digital Pinoys is satisfied with the President’s report and will continue to work with the government for a safe and inclusive cyberspace.
