BTS Ticket Sell-out Sparks Scam Warning, Anti-Scalping Call

As excitement continues to build among Filipino BTS fans following the announcement of the group’s return and upcoming concert activities, a network of digital advocates warned BTS fanatics against ticket scalpers and fake online sellers preying on those who were unable to secure tickets during the official sale.

Digital Pinoys National Campaigner Ronald Gustilo said that with concert tickets already sold out, fake online ticket sellers, scammers, and opportunistic scalpers are expected to take advantage of desperate fans looking for tickets through unofficial channels.

“We have seen this pattern repeatedly whenever major international and local artists announce concerts. Once tickets are sold out, fraudsters quickly emerge on social media platforms, online marketplaces, and messaging applications offering fake tickets, non-existent reservations, or highly inflated resale prices. Fans should remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to these schemes,” Gustilo said.

Gustilo advised concertgoers to thoroughly verify the legitimacy of online sellers before making any payment. He also urged fans to be wary of social media accounts claiming to have extra tickets available, offering suspicious discounts, or requiring immediate payment through digital wallets and bank transfers without proper verification.

“Online ticket scams have become increasingly sophisticated. Fraudsters now use fake receipts, fabricated ticket confirmations, edited screenshots, and cloned social media pages to deceive consumers. We urge the public to exercise extreme caution and immediately report suspicious posts and accounts selling supposedly available tickets,” he said.

Gustilo added that stronger safeguards must be put in place to prevent abusive ticket-buying practices and ensure that tickets are sold fairly to genuine fans rather than individuals seeking to profit from artificial scarcity, as he called on Congress to prioritize the passage of the proposed Anti-Ticket Scalping Act filed by the Gabriela Women’s Party in the House of Representatives and Senator Kiko Pangilinan in the Senate, which seeks to address the growing problem of ticket hoarding and reselling at excessive prices.

“The emergence of scalpers immediately after tickets were sold out highlights the urgent need for legislative intervention. Ticket scalping not only exploits consumers but also creates an unfair marketplace where genuine fans are deprived of the opportunity to purchase tickets at their original price. We believe stronger legislation is needed to deter organized scalping operations, regulate ticket reselling practices, and protect Filipino consumers,” Gustilo said.

Gustilo noted that while online scams directly victimize consumers through fraud, ticket scalping similarly harms the public by artificially driving up prices and limiting access to legitimate tickets.

“Concerts should be a celebration for fans, not an opportunity for scammers and scalpers to profit at their expense. We call on authorities, ticketing platforms, social media companies, and legislators to work together in protecting consumers and ensuring a fair ticketing environment,” Gustilo added.
